Hazrat Yusuf and Mirror
A Friend Visits Hazrat Yusuf (as)
A kind friend traveled from afar, seeking the company of Hazrat Yusuf (AS), the embodiment of piety and grace. They were childhood companions, bound by a shared history and deep trust in one another. In their reunion, the friend gently reminded Hazrat Yusuf (AS) of the trials he had faced—the wrath of his brothers, the pain of betrayal, and the immense suffering he endured at their hands. Hazrat Yusuf’s (AS) response was profound in its simplicity, reflecting the essence of a true believer’s heart. With unwavering faith, he remarked that every hardship in life carries within it a hidden good, a divine wisdom that unfolds with time. His words embodied the Quranic principle that trials are often pathways to greater blessings, shaping character, strengthening faith, and paving the way for divine favor. Through his reply, Hazrat Yusuf (AS) reminded his friend—and us—that patience and trust in Allah transform suffering into a means of growth and redemption. His life serves as a timeless example of how faith illuminates even the darkest moments, revealing the good that lies beneath every challenge.
An old friend came to visit From the far-off lands
To enjoy the hospitality of Yusuf, the truthful one.
Friends they have been since childhood,
Leaning on each other, they were fond
He reminded Yusuf, how envious and cruel his brothers have been (1)
Yusuf answered: No worries, chain it was, but I’m the lion
No shackles could deceit or degrade the lion
Why I may complain against the God’s Will
Chain around the neck can’t bother a lion
He is the prince and chain makers are bound
Friend asked: How one may survive in well and prison? (2)
Yusuf said: Like a moon waning, then becoming a whole.
The Crescent is weak so bends in pain, so what?
Everyone sees it shining as a full moon again! (3)
